A Country with No Water

I just finished watching a Ted Talk by Fahad Al-Attiya called "A Country with No Water", and I found it to be really interesting. Fahad Al-Attiya works for the Qatar National Food Security Programme (QNFSP). The main aim of QNFSP is to ensure that Qatar has enough food and energy resources to last for future generations 👍. They are working on making Qatar a more sustainable country in terms of food and energy production, including conducting research on these issues and teaching the public about their importance. Overall, I felt that Fahad’s talk was a really well put-together presentation. He had useful and interesting information and data that people need to be introduced to. However, my only comment on his presentation would be about the slides. The slides were a little bit confusing 👎. I had to pause the presentation and look through the data and text on the slides closely to figure out what was meant by it. He was rushing through them way too fast, without really explaining what is on them. He should have been more careful, considering that not all of his audience and viewers had a high level of English or much knowledge of the technical terms he was using.

Fahad Al-Attiya talked about different topics within his presentation. For example, he mentioned solar energy 🌤, food production 🍎, and desalination plants 🌊. I really appreciated that he talked about solar energy, because it is really important to be aware that oil and gas are not going to last us forever. We, as Qataris, need to be involved in our country's development and be as helpful and cooperative as possible. Now, Qatar is in the process of building a huge solar energy farm in Ras Laffan (you can read more about it here). It is really nice to see how the country is developing and considering different sources of energy. Another topic that was mentioned in the talk is food production. According to Fahad's statistics, Qatar used to have 90% of its food imported. However, since the blockade, interest in local farms and local food production has increased. Qatari people and the government are working together to support local production. These days, whenever we go into a supermarket, the first thing we look for is the Qatari flag ⚐ on products, meaning that the products were made locally. On the whole, I enjoyed the Ted Talk as it made me reflect on the importance of protecting Qatar's resources and becoming a more sustainable country.
